Cosmo the Cougar is the high-flying, beloved, and nationally recognized official mascot for Brigham Young University (BYU) Athletics, who first made his debut in 1953. Named after the idea of BYU being a "cosmopolitan" school, Cosmo has evolved from a simple pep-rally figure into one of college sports' most acrobatic and entertaining mascots, renowned for his complex choreographed dance routines with the Cougarettes and daring stunts like slam dunks, flips, and riding motorcycles. His viral videos and energetic performances have earned him national attention, cementing his status as a charismatic symbol of BYU school spirit, honor, and athleticism, often traveling in his specialized van, the "Cosmobile," to appear at hundreds of events annually.
